Sarah and Maria, I LOVED IT! I had forgotten all about your "spins" and that was sooo cool! Sarah, I really liked you turning the word "nervous" into "excited." YES!!! I gotta steal that phrase. I also liked the point about humor. Humor is glue that makes ideas stick! There's a story about a new Toastmaster who asked an older experienced Toastmaster if he REALLY had to use humor in his speeches. The older guy stroked his gray beard and said very seriously, "No son, you don't. Not unless you want people to remember what you said." People remember your workshop - and all the excellent points you gave - because you used humor (smiling and "spins" and goofy cures, etc.) in presenting the workshop. If you had not used humor, if it would have been like a dry, boring budget and project planning presentation (which we've all agonized through!), people would have forgotten what you said before they left the room. But now FOUR YEARS LATER, the ideas are still there and fresh on everyone's mind! YAY!!! .... My only suggestion to both of you is I'd LOVE for you both to get involved in Toastmasters! Not because you need Toastmasters, but because Toastmasters needs YOU! Your presentation is as applicable to fluent speakers as much as it is to people who stutter. You both are superb role models to anyone who is terrified of public speaking or facing a fear of any sort. I know you're both kinda busy these days with kids and all, but think about that for the future. The whole world needs more people like you!
