My school has a senior speech program in which every member of the senior class gives a short, 5-10 minute presentation. I read this as mine...pretty fluently I might add! In the past, students who had speech problems or were unusually afraid of public speaking were given the option to read their speech to a small panel of teachers; but I figured giving it would be a good way to come to terms with my stutter as I move into college. Saying the words aloud in public really reinforced them in my mind, especially when it was to an audience of over five hundred. Each student usually takes this time to leave his or her mark on the school, and this topic seemed appropriate. As for the plays, I mostly just participated when I was young because it was something I enjoyed. Neither was a part of speech therapy, though what I learned certainly gave me confidence to do both.
