I am not currently in speech therapy, and I certainly try to be my own therapist. I think that the most frustrating thing about speech therapy, especially when I was younger, was that I expected an hour session every week to cure my speech. In reality, there is no cure, and secondly, I had to try to actively employ what I had learned in order to get anywhere--you almost have to be your own therapist at some point. The techniques can be awkward, and it is hard to use them in everyday situations because they seem to interrupt the "natural" flow of conversation, though no more than a stutter does! I took this speech as a way to come to terms with my stutter as I moved into college. Stuttering is really the only daunting thing for me in regards to public speaking, and after I had practically memorized the whole thing, I was much more confident for the presentation. Best of luck as a therapist, I hope this helps.
