I have never spoken to my former teachers about the mute parts, and it is just a funny anecdote around my house. I certainly harbor no resentment because of these parts, as a child I was glad to have them to avid embarrassment. Had I been forced to speak more I may have come to terms with my speech earlier, but in the long run it seems this realization is more a function of maturity. I’m sure speech therapy could have been more effective when I was child, simply because I was never really taught any way to manipulate my vocal cords etc. to mitigate it. As I said in my first post “Being treated as a client and not a patient, actually learning techniques to do while caught in a stutter, and having the ability to work on things I thought I needed help with, gave me confidence to speak.” Thank you for reading, and I appreciate the kind words.
