The nice thing about this speech topic is that I almost had to stutter in order for it to have any impact! Not really, but it made me much more comfortable stuttering in front of others while I was talking about how people react to it. At first, people’s reactions made a great impact on me—but part of accepting you stutter is being comfortable with it, and thus detachment from people’s responses. As for the entertainment question, it seems most demographics are made fun of for entertainment, and it would be a shame for stutterers to be left out! Sure, Adam Sandler probably didn’t have the best intentions in his mockery, and I certainly heard that phrase over and over again after the movie was released; so naturally I’m not a big fan of his. Stuttering is not always a laughing matter, but it is much harder to deal with if you aren’t cheerful and can’t laugh at yourself.
