Thank you, David, for sharing. It is not often we take the time to really understand how a another person feels. We oftentimes just think, ‘Oh, I understand” or “I can imagine.” In my fluency class, we recently had to complete an assignment where we were asked to stutter in public in 3 different situations with blocks, repetitions, etc. It was quite eye opening, especially hearing about the difference in experiences between my classmates – and this was just in 3 isolated incidents of stuttering. We are hardly qualified to “know” what it’s like to be a person who stutters, but, at least, now we have an idea. I’ve heard from a few people who stutter that accepting that stuttering is something they do rather than something are has helped them increase their quality of life or, if nothing else, not avoid chances to share their thoughts and feelings with others. I’m happy to see that it has made a positive impact in your life as well. Was this a speech you gave at your graduation?
