Sabine..great comment. I teach strategies as ways to modify tension and timing,not to cure stutering!..so, each student has a choice to use the strategies or deal with the potential of stutteirng i.e blocking or repeating, etc. I also work on the fact that stuttering is just a way of talking...And you are right, as many kids feel that talkng slower is a problem. I basically work on an approach of finding a way to include some strategies and yet keep the style of communication in tact..that being said...it is a difficult aspect of treatment for a stuttering problem and one that is not answered in a simple way..thanks for your comments. D
