Karen..great question. You are correct, some kids are not ready for these activities...so, I keep things simple....talking about how we talk, that everyone has trouble talking at times, etc. I also work to get them to talk to me..about anything. The more we talk, the more likely a student will open up. However, there are some kids who have difficult with this type of discussion. I work a lot on strategies/ways to use them/ and why they are tough to use in some situations...this often opens the door to some of the other issues. It is not always easy..and I do have some challenges in treatment that are difficult..thanks for your question.
