Melissa..first of all, I spent a lot of time at St. Rose with my dear friends Sr. Char Bloom and Donna Cooperman! You have a wonderful program. To answer your questions (I will try,the PPTs work best in individual tx due to the need for each student to write without influence from others re: feeling, ideas, etc. I have never used them in group. I frequently make handout copies of the ppts for the student to share with parents, school slp or in a group. It is the student's decision about sharing. As for a child resisting group or meeting other kids, that is a tough question. I as the therapist might develop a few slides about group tx..i.e snacks, activities and finally why you like groups..then ask the student to respond to these slides and state his opinion about each of the above...some kids are just not ready for group when we think it is the right thing. By talking about the positives of group and asking for his comments, you have opened the door for communication. You also might introduce the stories of famous people who stutter..how did they learn to deal with stuttering...just an idea. Good luck!
