Thank you for sharing this article! While providing the student with tools to modify or prevent moments of stuttering, these techniques will not be effective without altering negative attitudes towards communication that may have developed through the child or teen’s lifetime. Tomorrow I have my first diagnostic clinic with a teenager who stutters. As important as it will be to obtain information on his behaviors, this article has reminded me to attend to his attitudes toward stuttering, and its effects on his communication and confidence. I feel better prepared having read this!
