Russ, Thank you for the wonderful article! Acceptance has been my biggest road block to recovering from stuttering. In my teenage and young adult years, “acceptance” was analogous to giving up and admitting that I could never “beat” stuttering. This filled me with much angry and frustration, because as long as the sun rose in the East, I wasn’t going to give up. Now, with the help of a lot of wonderful people, “acceptance” means to me: acknowledging the reality of my speech today, and taking action to make a change for the better tomorrow.
