Hi Harriet, Thanks for your kind words. Yes indeed, there is a HUGE difference between straight fluency and effective communication. Over the years I’ve learned that people really couldn’t care less about moderate (or even some pretty severe) dysfluencies, but they definitely DO care a great deal about effective communication. I wish I could get more people who stutter to understand that. A lot of the time they want fluency more than anything else, but they’re wanting the wrong thing! If they could get good communication skills, then fluency is really not really that important. As you said, it’s a subtle distinction but it’s critically important! ….
