Hello Jessica! Thank you for your comments regarding my paper. I have to admit though that it did take me a long while to think that the "Get over it" comment was accurate. I think that for many of us growing up, we are taught and sometimes society does dictate this as well, that we should not say anything that would hurt another's feelings, especially when it comes to something such as stuttering, where the person can be sensitive. Was I angry she said it to me? Absolutely, for more than a few days in fact! But as much as I tried to ignore it, I couldn't, and it began to east away at me as I wondered what if there was some truth to what was being said? As for whether I have been more fluent since that time, it's really hard to say. But there was no doubt that those comments were a major milestone on the journey of self-acceptance which all those who stutter should take. Some of us can accept we stutter easily, while some may be in denial, refusing to acknowledge that. I do accept that I will have good days and bad days with my speech, but now I don't beat myself up as much as I used to. Stuttering ebbs and flows, and I can accept that much better than before. But what I do know emphatically is that having a great attitude can only make you feel much better every day! Thank you for your comments! -SK.
