Hi Alissa, Thank you for writing in! I do believe that a positive attitude is very important and it has helped to create a positive environment when it comes to my speech, but I think that is one part of it only. A few years ago I made an important decision in my life to return to speech therapy after being turned down for a position I interviewed for. But even more than that, to me it's about commitment. When I began speech therapy, I could barely say my own name, and now four years from that, on a good day I can be seventy percent fluent-and now I lecture at colleges as well. You have to be willing to pledge to yourself that you are worth it to make the best investment in yourself and stay on top of your stuttering. The word commitment speaks so much in today's world. I'm committed to my work with the NSA, committed to speaking, and committed to making my voice heard. I firmly believe that being a person who stutters has shown me I have a special gift to impact others around the world. And you can too!-SK.
