Steven, I am a first year graduate student, and am still try to get my grasp on the fluency world. Right now we are covering therapy programs and techniques, and many of them leave out aspects, such as having a positive attitude. It seems to me that they just want us as clinicians to jump right into the programs and begin therapy; some of them seem so focused on fluency that they leave out what I feel is a vital aspect of therapy, acceptance and often attitude modification. I believe that an individual needs to be ok with the fact that they stutter, and feel a sense of empowerment before they can be completely successfully in their therapy. I can only hope that the stuttering clients I will work with during my career have the same attitude that you have developed, and utilize the resources that are out there. Thank you for sharing your story, it is certainly an inspirational one!
