Hi Erin! Thank you for reading my paper. I am very intrigued by what you mentioned that the clinicians were you are want you to jump right in. As the chapter leader for an NSA suppoert group, one of the most valuable lessons I learned was given to me by Russ Hicks, who also has a paper published here. Evey teammate who stutters is on their own journey of self-acceptance, and we all move at different speeds. It took me well into my late twenties and it wasn't I attended my first NSA conference until that trek officially started. I work currently with an SLP who is an SLP in the sense of the word, but he is also a strong motivator and master of empowerment. At the same time, he also knows when he needs to work with me and when not to. It can be so tempting for an SLP to correct you when you are blocking, but the best thing to do is let that person finish their thoughts. Part of being an SLP is not just the technical aspect and putting those theories in play, but also showing empathy and consideration! Good luck in your studies!
