Hi Stephanie! Thank you for reading my paper. Many teammates who stutter will often not pursue speech therapy for a number of reasons-insurance, etc., but my reason was out of sheer frustration. As a youngster I had been in and out of speech therapy for a number of years, in fact, I had gone through seven SLPs in five years. I really grew tired of the fact that I was feeling like I was a "lost case" in their eyes. When you begin seeing an SLP and it doesn't work out for whatever reason, the logical choice is to seek out another one-but besides having chemistry, there's the matter of using techniques that you may not feel comfortable with-my earliest one was learning stretching, or what I call "the robot voice." I do not know if that is even used anymore, but I know that leaving speech therapy was a major decision I regretted-because I know in order to stay on top, I will always need consistent therapy and an approach that "This is my desire!"
