Hi Layne! Thank you for reading my paper. You actually mentioned something I use when I lecture to SLP students, both undergraduate and graduate. I like to consider myself a student of the game of hockey, and I love dissecting strategy. How does that apply to being hard-working? Well, here's how it does: if you had to compare me to a hockey player, I will never be the 50-goal scorer whose highlights make ESPN. I have to outwork others in many aspects of my life: whether it comes to speech therapy or applying for a job. Part of being a chapter leader and teammate for the NSA means that I have to hold myself to a higher standard, and I have to know that I need to work hard-and by doing so, I can keep my speech at a decent level. To expect 100 percent fluency is just asking the impossible. But that's no reason why I should constantly stay on top and work as hard as possible. When I look back at these past two years, sometimes I don't recognize what it was like to be 30 percent fluent. It feels good to be a hard worker!
