Mr. Loriente, I respect what you have to say and the ideas you propose in your article. As a future speech-language pathologist, I would like to imagine myself helping any person that I encounter who stutters in a positive and well-meaning manner. I have leanrned that 100% fluency is never the goal, but rather, working towards fluent speech along with: increased self-confidence, less stress and anxiety, decreased secondary behaviors and so on and so forth. I believe that in stuttering therapy, emphasis should be placed on accepting your stutter and moving forward accepting that you are a person who stutters in a positive light. As a person who stutters, what is your opinion of this type of goal in a therapy setting? On accepting stuttering as a part of who you are? Your thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thank you.
