Dear Mr. Loriente Your article is excellent--I agree with you that the stigma of stuttering must end. That is done through leaving the closet, as you suggest and by educating the general public. I understand what you say about "demedicalizing" stuttering so that it is no longer seen as deviant but just different. As a speech-language pathologist I would not want to stop offering speech therapy services to PWS. If we eliminate speech therapy, what do we tell the people who stutter (or parents of children who stutter) who want to explore different ways of stuttering and being effective communicators? No, stuttering cannot be eliminated, but SLPs can help people who stutter to understand their stuttering and fluency and to find ways of being effective in communication. Thank you so very much for your excellent article. It is very thought provoking and I will share it with others!
