As an SLP/A and stutterer I'd have to say that helping a stutterer is a long way from curing them. Under our current largely medically-based models we consider stuttering as something that needs to be cured or, at the very least remediated. While I would agree that some kind of remediation is necessary perhaps that remediation should be cultural. I have worked with and helped some folks who stutter and have been able to help others not at all. Unfortunately our current models tend to see this as either their or my failure. Perhaps the failure is cultural. After all, look at all the information about all the help support groups seem to be affording stutterers.
