Dear Professor Loriente: I am a doctoral student at NYU who nurtures a great interest in the reconciliation of research and the humane nature of the conditions we study. Your concept of transfluency presents an interesting perspective on stuttering. However, I have a few questions: 1) Communication is an interactional process and therefore, the listener's comprehension matters too. Do you think that it would empower someone who stutters to educate others on the experience of living transfluently? My trepidation with only considering the transfluent speaker's perspective is that this may further isolate the community as opposed to enhancing communication. 2) Have you explored any other methods of being and feeling in control of stuttering (e.g. voluntary stuttering?) I appreciate any thoughts you may have. Best, Tiffany Rogers
