Cristóbal. My friend, long ago we have discussed until sickness those very interesting ideas about stuttering: acceptance, transfluency, step out of the closet, treatment, medicalization... How I wish to belive in the notion of transfluency! But, my friend, I do not. I cannot. To me, stuttering is not a social construction. The stigma, the pain, the discrimination we face (so beautifully recoiled and studied by you) is not constructed by society, by Medicine, by a clinical point of view. Medicine only resumes the fact and adds to the notion. It comes from the very ancient days, when the man begun to talk. For me, talking about trasfluency for stuttering is the same as talking about "trasnvision" for the one-eyed people. Un abrazo. Pablo.
