Joe, What an exciting collaboration! The SCAC, you, and Mr. Skinner are certainly to be congratulated! I know that Moussa Dao and Anne-Marie Simone from France have also brought information to Togo and Senegal through the ISA's International Speech Project. Their paper is online at http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad11/papers/simon11.html In my mind, the International Stuttering Association and the International Fluency Association could be wonderful collaborators in these projects of teaming a professional (who would provide professional information and support) with a consumer (who would provide information about starting and maintaining support groups). Together the ISA and IFA could hopefully develop a program to help fund such collaborations so that individuals would not have to fund their own airfare as Mr. Skinner did and the host country could possibly have some modest assistance in providing food and lodging as Cameroon did. There are other potential ways to fund such projects including a couple I know about. Two years ago, Susan Felsenfeld shared how she was able to come to Burkina Faso for a few weeks through the Senior Specialist Fulbright program which places people from 2-6 weeks. The U.S. Fulbright program provides airfare and a stipend while the host country provides in-country transportation, lodging and money for food. Her article is onine at http://www.mnsu.edu/comdis/isad10/papers/fulbright10/fulbright10.html The Canadian organization, CUSO (http://www.cuso.org/ matches volunteers from Canada and the United States in African and Asian countries, including speech therapists. There are some shorter possibilities of 3-6 months but 1-2 year placements are preferable. I suspect there are other such programs available. Judy
