Hi Tracy, Thank for reading my paper and the questions you asked. As of now there is no Institution in Cameroon that offers courses in speech and hearing or Communication Disorders as a whole. The few fully trained and licensed SLPs we have here were either trained in Europe or North America. In Douala where I live which is the biggest city in Cameroon with a population of more than four million, there is only one trained SLP. She is a French expatriate working in private practise for children of Expatriates here and those well to do Cameroonians. She does not do stuttering speech therapy as I was made to understand. We have in Douala two ‘reeducateurs’, these are self trained guys who have read much on speech therapy and can work on various forms of communication disorders in private practice. In Yaoundé which is the capital city and the second largest in Cameroon, there is a Cameroonian lady who is a logopedist (SLP) trained I Belgium and works in private practice. So there is Institution or body that offer accreditation to SLPs in Cameroon. I wish the Speak Clear Association of Cameroon had the necessary know- how to regulate and offer accreditation to SLPs in Cameroon. Let me just say here that it is not only Cameroon that does not have institutions that offer training in Speech therapy. Most African countries do not have those institutions. Following some findings I made only South Africa has Universities that offer Speech and language courses. Recently, there is an Institution in Togo West African that offer speech therapy courses in French .
