Joseph, Thank you for your informative article. I am always amazed at the prevalence of stuttering in your country. It is easy to see how it takes a back seat to other diseases that are life threatening like Malaria, HIV-Aids, etc. I wonder what the impact of those life threatening diseases has on the population, and if the stress and worry about life have anything to do with the incidence of stuttering? It seems that if folks have a predisposition to stuttering, they may or may not stutter depending on other environmental issues. Wondering if I were going to contract one of the life threatening diseases would sure stress me out! It is also not helpful to not have the personnel available to your people. I think that those who have volunteered have given a wonderful piece of themselves to your part of the world. It seems to me that with the technology we have today, there may be many SLP's who would be willing to volunteer some of their time using SKYPE. Traveling to Africa is not possible for many people from this country, but sitting in front of a computer for an hour a week by 500 SLP's is feasible! If there were a center set up where folks could go to use the computer, and an SLP from another country on the other end of the line, would that help the situation?
