Katharine Mitchell Thanks for your comment and question. Yes, there is still a lot to be done in Africa in the field of stuttering awareness,self help, treatment and research.There are some families where family members are very suportive of those who stutter. Personally, I come from such a family. There are others that are not very suportive of their members who stutter. The testimony of one of the PWS who attended our therapy session is clear. His father thought he faked his stuttering to avoid doing many things within the family. The guy had a very severe stutter and I could imagine the pains he often go through from people who are supposed to be of help to him. Here people might react they way they do to stutterers due to the lack of information that can help to make them understand that stuttering is a seroius communication disorder.
