I am a graduate student from Illinois State University, currently enrolled in Dr. Sawyer’s fluency class. I thought your approach to stuttering therapy in the schools was a wonderful way to increase the student’s speaking confidence in all settings. Some children are fluent in the therapy room but are unable to transfer those skills into a natural environment. In your paper you stressed the importance of having the child’s communication environment being the focus of therapy. In your past experiences how do you deal with parents who do not take the time to get involved with their child? Are you still successful without the parent’s involvement?
