Callie, good observations. Thanks for your interest. I believe stuttering is a disorder but I use a problem solving approach to treatment. Stuttering definitely causes problems and those problems may or may not be related to talking. Some people, for example, want to know how to deal with difficult situations (or people) and they are not interested in speech therapy per se. That is why we must let the client (and parents) tell us what problems they are having and go from there. It sounds as if you and I are on the same wave length! Let me say again: I became a much better and more accountable clinician when I quit telling clients what they needed and let them tell me and believe what they say. Best wishes.
