Dr.Richard Mallard, I strongly believe that the parent and child should play the leading role in any therapeutic intervention.I did enjoy your three-week assignment and found it as useful information toward therapeutic intervention if neccessary. In my stuttering class we will soon be focusing on assessment and treatment for Quantifying Family-Child Interaction Patterns. After reading your article I have become interested in integrated approaches working with the parent to decrease frustration and negative attitudes and working with the child to increase fluency. I also began to think about how important the diagnostic evaluation is providing all aspects of the child's environment. The diagnostic evaluation should inform us of the onset, how the family reacts to the child's stuttering, and when the child stutter's most.
