Raffaella, thanks for your comments and question. It just seems to make more sense to me to view treatment from a problem solving standpoint than from a "treating the problem" standpoint. I do not use frequency counts or percentages in my evaluation of treatment. These kinds of numbers can be very misleading. I prefer to use statements of how the child is functioning in the environment as my guide. My goal is for the child to lower the issue of talking (or stuttering) in making daily decisions regarding communication. For example, if the child wants to answer a question in class, the hand goes up and the answer is given without considering stuttering. Yes, there may be stuttering but stuttering did not play a role in the decision to answer the question in what could be a difficult speaking situation. I hope this answers your question.
