Chris, wow you have described a difficult situation for the child. It seems to me that you have a good case for the ARD committee to discuss. Your IEP should mandate some cooperation. Some education by you as to the realities of stuttering seem to be in order. One thing you might consider is to ask the teacher to merely have the child keep eye contact during talking. The child does not have to leave the room and the child will not miss any class time. This may be a case where you do the best you can and hope the child can get appropriate help when he is old enough to make his own decisions. The key, I believe, to successful therapy with children is not not make therapy difficult; give the child one or two things to concentrate on and let that be it. I push for keeping eye contact and voluntary stuttering in a relaxed manner. Those two activities are basic. I wish I had other suggestions. If I think of more I'll post them.
