Dr. Mallard, I enjoyed reading your paper on simplifying stuttering therapy in a school setting. I'm a graduate student in speech-language pathology hoping to work in the schools when I am finished with my degree, and student teaching experience taught me that anything that can help simplify the process is important! I just had a few questions for you. (1) Do you use this program for children with varying levels of severity? If so, are there any differences in your approach with children who are severe stutterers vs. those who have a mild level of severity? (2) If a child or parent does say to you that he/she wishes to reduce the actual number of disfluencies (i.e. a more traditional "fix the problem" approach) in addition to the problem-solving method you've suggested, will you do that? Have you ever used a sort of "hybrid" of the two approaches for a family? (3) When the parents are monitoring their children at home, especially during Talk Time, do you find that more of their comments refer to themselves and their feelings about their child stuttering, or more about the behaviors and feelings of their child? Thank you so much for you time and for your insight!
