Having spent time studying child development, I’m so intrigued by your system of having the child decide and manage his or her own goals, and that she/he will also feel the benefits or consequences of their own design (i.e. the teacher uses a chosen positive or negative gesture in response to meeting or avoiding goals). I’m a graduate student in my first semester of fluency and this is an idea that I’ve yet to read or hear about. I’ll be sure to keep this approach in my clinical arsenal and apply it to future work with many different kinds of speech clients. Thank you for such an interesting and helpful article.
