Thank you for this article and I support everything you say. When it comes to languaging about stuttering as a problem that needs to be fixed - I wonder if instead we could position stuttering as something there are choices around - the choices are around taking control how and when. If we label stuttering as a problem then the child/student is somehow "less than." I consider each student as a student who is whole and complete and also has a unique quality that invites him/her onto my caseload. I get to be with that student as we work to achieve mutually agreed upon goals and the student makes choices that support those goals. This approach feels different to me and to the students I have the pleasure of working with... It's all food for thought. Thank you.
