Kristina, thanks for your interest and questions. I'll address your questions as you asked them. 1. The goal of my therapy is to reduce the problem of stuttering as the child makes daily decisions. Success for me has nothing to do with how fluent the child may be. 2. Let me address questions 2-4 in the following manner. The three week assignment provides information about how the parents and child communicate and to see if the parents will follow-through with this first assignment. Other information will be gained from the case history and assessment of the child. If the parents are willing and cooperative and if I believe a family-based program would be in their best interest, then I will see them. Information relative to treatment is actually gained throughout the therapy program. I can't learn everything during an assessment. Things change and we must be flexible as we move along. 3. It may be that you are using the term "formal" speech therapy as a more traditional approach. Whenever I see a child for treatment, it is "formal" therapy. I do admit that I stay away from "traditional" approaches! Thanks again for your questions and best wishes in your graduate work.
