Teresa, thank you for your question. I do not find it difficult for young children to tell me what they want to do about their speech. They usually know exactly what they want to do. The problem often is keeping the parents quiet and letting the child do the talking! Parents sometimes have a hard time taking a back seat to their child's independence. Parents must let the child take responsibility and experience consequences of their decisions if the child is to grow and be a responsible adult. Great question and thanks.
