Dr. Mallard, I really enjoyed reading your paper on this home program for children who stutter. I am a graduate student in speech pathology and West Virginia University and am now enrolled in an advanced stuttering course. I really like how the child has so many choices in the therapy instead of simply being told what to do. In our advanced stuttering class, we have discussed how important parent involvement is for children who stutter. I see that the Talk Time Home Assignment gets several important pieces of information, including if the parents will follow instructions. I know families have busy lives, especially if the child has other siblings or is involved in extra-curricular activities. I was just wondering if you have ever had parents "slack off" in their duties for the home program, and if so, how you as the SLP deal with the problem?
