Samantha, great questions! Thanks. The purpose of the Talk Time assignment at the beginning is to see if the parents will follow through. If they don't, then we don't begin this program and I will refer them to someone else if they wish. Other approaches use parent involvement but I am not aware of those who use this assignment as I do. But, there may be some. Since you are just beginning to learn about the profession, don't hesitate to work with other disorders using this model. I work with articulation, language, stuttering, and other problems with the same, problem solving, family approach. Parents like it--and so do I! Best wishes.
