When stuttering support first started in the 1970s, many clinicians were skeptical. "We thought we'd fixed you guys," one SLP told me. These days, most mainstream fluency clinicians endorse support groups, and some organize their own continuation groups to reinforce therapy skills. Because many PWS are initially reluctant to attend support groups, I recommend that the clinician accompany the client to the first support meeting.
