Hello Bridget, Awareness and education from the core groups effect, PWS, is essential for public understanding. We, the PWS, forget this at times and tend to lay blame elsewhere. Ah yes you have never heard of stuttering being mentioned through university counselling. Exactly Bridget. My research has found of late that students who stutter have not been asking or enquiring about assistance at times based on the fact that stuttering was never mentioned on disability based information or during the enrolment procedure. The big ticket disabilities like sight, hearing and mobility impaired were but not at all stuttering. Simple by having a little mention here and there may have a huge impact with awareness from a student perspective. I think students who stutter need to be hit in the face with the fact that there are services at university that can aid them at times of need. They should be made aware of these services regardless of if they consider their stuttering as a disability or not. Stuttering ambassadors even to each university would be a great option also.
