This was a very interesting article, and an issue I’ve never really thought about. I’ve never explored web based disability services, so I wouldn’t really know what to look for, or expect that different disabilities would be looked at and acknowledged differently. I definitely agree with a couple of your final comments. People who stutter, whether they believe it’s a disability or not need to work on stuttering awareness. Before I took the class I’m currently taking on stuttering, I had no idea the affect stuttering had on a person’s life. I also never realized how severe stuttering could get. This is probably due to the fact that I’ve never come across a person who stutters, or maybe I have but I didn’t know it because they hid it so well. What ever the case may be, people need to be aware of stuttering so things can be done to accommodate students who stutter, if they want/need to be accommodated. I believe if more people were exposed to stuttering and more aware of stuttering they would realize it has nothing to do with a person’s ability to do other things. If people who stutter know that others are aware of stuttering, it would hopefully prevent them from being so ashamed of their stuttering.
