Asd a person who stutters, I think I have experienced both of those perceptions. Foa long time, I felt inadequate and ashamed, and thus hid my stuttering, often going to ridiculous extremes to do so. And I would push myself to take on lots of other things, and try to excel at them, in order to compensate for my stuttering. Now, since shedding covert behaviors, and being more comfortable with public stuttering, I actually embrace and welcome stuttering into my life (most of the time!) Do you think age has any thing to do with whether people perceive stuttering as a challenge or threat?
