I found your article on how people react to difficultly in relation to stuttering very interesting. As a SL357 student, we have been learning a lot about the emotional underlying that stuttering can create and how people deal with it. I believe it is important for clinician’s to be aware of these responses in order to help the client in an effective way. It can develop a base for where the client is at in dealing with their stuttering and how motivated the individual may be when it comes to therapy and improving their fluency. Do you believe persons who stutter all fall under one of these two categories, or can they develop qualities of each response? Do you think those who show a helpless response can develop into someone who is mastery-oriented, and if so what are a few ways you would facilitate learning and understanding of that response?
