Hi Sandra, Thank you for your interesting paper. I’m not surprised that there is such a wide variation of attitudes. Every person who stutters is unique. We come from different backgrounds; we have different life experiences; we have accumulated different degrees of emotional baggage; we have commenced from different starting lines; we possess different aspirations and expectations; we have attained different levels of maturity, education and understanding of what stuttering involves. We also have different degrees of self-acceptance, self-confidence, self-efficacy and self esteem. But, perhaps the greatest difference relates to our belief system and self-image which have such an influence upon our thoughts and the way in which we live our lives. I am one of those persons who does not regard setbacks as failures but view them as learning experiences - stepping stones to future success. When we overcome somthing that has challenged our advancement, we grow in stature. It opens our eyes to possibilities that we could never have imagined. Kindest regards Alan
