dear sandra, thanks for this interesting paper and the introduction to carol dweck´s work. i am not sure about the real difference between her theory about growth and fixed mindset on the one hand and the popular saying about self confidence/positive thinking on the other hand. it sounds logical that a person would reach his/her goal (whether it s about improving speech or anything else) if he/she would have a strong believe in her own abilities and if she is able to take failure as necessary to improve on the way. so isn t it all about really accepting oneself despite past experiences with parents, school teachers or mates, colleagues and so on? reflecting one s own history, in this way positioning oneself in the social world and realizing the effort it takes to reach certain goals and leave other goals as unachievable behind? i see the scientific need to establish new theories but from the popular point of view i don t see the difference so far. maybe my look was not close enough? thanks for your answer ahead, blanka
