Dear Lindsay, thank you for your comments. I really agree with you. I think people are not usually aware of the conceptions they have about the nature of skills. It is necessary to “translate” for them, so they can see it. I have experienced some interesting situations about this in the therapy room. My patients do not realize that they have performance goals and that they assume that stuttering cannot be modified. I have to point out this for them. After that, they usually agree that they are not doing the best choices. But they really don’t know how to do other way. So I think that realizing things can be different is a very important step for changing. Regards, Sandra
