Thanks Irina, for the comments. I think acceptance is one of the most crucial things in coming to terms with stuttering. We have to accept all of our selves, and understand that stuttering is only a small part of who we are. I think a clinician needs to recognize that, and be ready to work on feelings rather than fluency targerts or goals. I didn't really work on any specific techniques for my first 3 years of therpay, becasue I really needed to learn to be OK with stuttering openly Clinicians can help with the denial by providing safe opportunties to talk about how it feels to stutter.
