As I replied to Tess, I think my experience in therapy as a 9 year old was not succesful because the therapist had no experience with stuttering. She did not address with me my feelings of isolation, feelings weird and different, and shame. I don't remember doing anything that helped reduce my fears of stuttering. And I think it was unsuccessful simply because it wastoo short-term. I think it was once a week during the school year, for one school year. My father then pulled me out of that school, and put me (us) in parochial school, where speech services were not provided,. He would not pay for me to have it privately anywhere. So I had no therapy experience again until over 30 years later, when a life time of trying to hide my stuttering and shame had fully ingrained.
