Thanks Paula for reading and the good question. When a student clinician told me she was uncomfortable, it made me feel good that she was being honest, instead of lying and saying she felt ok with it. It is hard to stutter! So I appreciate when someone who is just doing it volitionally is able to acknowledge that it made her feel uncomfortable. I am able to relax when it seems that we are both being honest with each other. I know in fluency classes students are asked to do pseudo-stuttering assignments. I think its just as important to try it in therapy with a client, and be honest about how it feels.
